The Forum Luncheon

Highlighting Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women

Last November, more than 400 people attended The Forum Luncheon highlighting Texas Children’s Hospital Pavilion for Women at The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston.

At the event, Dr. Michael Belfort, Texas Children’s obstetrician/gynecologist-in-chief and world-renowned fetal surgeon, spoke about a few of the many successes the Pavilion for Women has had since opening its doors in 2012.

“We have come a long way in a short time, and while I’m proud of our accomplishments, I don’t think we should ever stop trying to be even better,” Belfort said.

The forum’s program also included an emotional story by Emma Tramuto, who was told when she was 17 weeks pregnant that her baby, Ella Rose, had gastroschisis, a condition in which the abdomen fails to close completely and causes the intestines to be outside the body.

Emma and her husband, James, visited many physicians and surgeons and were told multiple times that their only choice was to terminate the pregnancy — until they came to Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women, where a team of clinicians cared for Emma and Ella Rose, who is now a vibrant 6-year-old.

“Miracles happen every day at Texas Children’s Hospital, and perhaps the biggest miracles are the ones for the tiniest patients” Emma said. “Our daughter is one of these incredible miracles. Had it not been for Texas Children’s Hospital, Ella Rose would not be here today. The doctors and nurses who cared for her gave her a chance at life that she simply would not have had otherwise.”

Save the date: The next Forum Luncheon is scheduled for November 14, 2019.
